Posted on Aug 30, 2018 in Featured |

Verizon Business just released its Best Small Cities for Small Businesses report for 2018. Rapid City made the list as the #9 ranked city across the U.S. for small businesses. Verizon Business announced the release of the “Best Small Cities for Small Businesses” report. We’ve all heard the phrase, “small businesses are the backbone of the US economy” – and for good reason – small businesses make up 99.7% of US employer firms. But what about the cities they start in? Verizon analysts dug deep into six factors relevant to small business owners to determine the top cities in our report. Verizon gathered data from small cities (as defined by the US Census) across the country. The elements we pulled indicate the financial climate of each city and an overview of its demographics. We based our ranking off of six metrics: education level of the local workforce, in-city commute times, income per capita, broadband access, availability of SBA loans, and overall tax friendliness. NEWS RELEASE Contact: Lawrence McKinney Elevate Rapid City 605-343-1744 (o) 386.316.0300 (m) Business Leaders Launch Five-year Strategy and Capital Campaign New public-private partnership seeks elevated level of growth and prosperity RAPID CITY, SD. (April 10, 2018) – Four leading business organizations, under the banner Elevate Rapid City, announced a new five-year economic development campaign today focused on $300 million in new business investment; retention and expansion of Ellsworth Airforce Base; workforce development and talent attraction; and entrepreneurship and innovation to continue to grow the region’s economy. For more than a year, the Rapid City Chamber of Commerce, Rapid City Economic Development Partnership, Ellsworth Development Authority, and Economic Development Foundation have been vetting a $4.25 million private-sector driven initiative. Elevate Rapid City celebrated the public kick-off today with the announcement that more than two dozen investors have already pledged $3.045 million, or 72 percent of the $4.25 million public-private goal. In a presentation at the new headquarters of Black Hills Corporation, the public-private partnership, which includes Rapid City and nearly 300 businesses, outlined its plan to focus on attracting talent, engaging regional leadership, promoting the Black Hills, inviting strategic investments, expanding marketing initiatives, and stimulating development to help Rapid City as well as regional communities and businesses compete and thrive. “Elevate Rapid City is a comprehensive approach to lifting all of our citizens and businesses up. Rather than being content to wait for what comes our way, we are determined to choose our own path for economic success. In business we set goals, measure our progress and hold ourselves accountable to achieving results. Data driven decision making will be the cornerstone of how, what and why we attract new jobs to Rapid City,” said Elevate Rapid City Co-Chairman David Emery, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Black Hills Corporation. “As the second largest city in the state, and one which we consider the crown jewel of South Dakota, it’s imperative that we have a strategy led by the private sector but in partnership with the public sector. For the first time in our storied history, we have four of our leading business organizations working collaboratively and eliminating duplication to ensure success,” said campaign co-chairman Jim Scull, Chairman of Scull Construction. “Elevate Rapid City will leverage the resources of these organizations, in conjunction with our own, to expand the regional growth strategy. We have a once in a lifetime opportunity to lobby Secretary of the Air Force Heather Wilson for the new B-21 and we must not squander it. The new innovation district will create opportunities for local start-ups that are disrupting industries as we speak. Of course workforce development and talent attraction will be critical to filling existing job openings...

TransCanada Confirms Commercial Support for Keystone XL

Posted on Jan 30, 2018 in Press Releases |

Strong commercial support advances project to construction preparation while working collaboratively with landowners to acquire easements CALGARY, Alberta – January 18, 2018 – News Release – TransCanada Corporation (TSX, NYSE: TRP) (TransCanada) today announced it has successfully concluded the Keystone XL open season, securing approximately 500,000 barrels per day of firm, 20 year commitments, positioning the proposed project to proceed. Interest in the project remains strong and TransCanada will look to continue to secure additional long-term contracted volumes. Today’s announcement builds on the November 20, 2017 decision by the Nebraska Public Service Commission to approve the Keystone XL route through the state. The approved route was based on a comprehensive review of the evidence submitted by all parties in the hearing process as well as state agencies to ensure it has a minimal impact to the public and to Nebraska’s natural resources. “Over the past 12 months, the Keystone XL project has achieved several milestones that move us significantly closer to constructing this critical energy infrastructure for North America,” said Russ Girling, TransCanada’s president and chief executive officer. “We thank President Donald Trump and his administration for their continued support and appreciate the ongoing efforts of Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts, the Nebraska legislative and congressional delegation, Omaha Federation of Labor, Nebraska State AFL-CIO, our customers and various stakeholders to advance this project. Furthermore, we appreciate Alberta Premier Rachel Notley for her government’s commitment to the project which was instrumental to achieving the commercial support needed to proceed,” added Girling. TransCanada is continuing outreach in the communities where the pipeline will be constructed and is working collaboratively with landowners in an open and transparent way to obtain the necessary easements for the approved route. Construction preparation has commenced and will increase as the permitting process advances throughout 2018, with primary construction expected to begin in 2019. The project is expected to generate tens of millions of dollars in local tax revenues, supporting first responders, schools and hospitals, as well as roads and other local infrastructure. Enhanced standards and utilization of the most advanced technology will help ensure Keystone XL will be built and operated to uphold our fundamental commitment to safety and the communities we serve. With more than 65 years’ experience, TransCanada is a leader in the responsible development and reliable operation of North American energy infrastructure including natural gas and liquids pipelines, power generation and gas storage facilities. TransCanada operates one of the largest natural gas transmission networks that extends more than 56,900 miles, tapping into virtually all major gas supply basins in North America. TransCanada is the continent’s leading provider of gas storage and related services with 653 billion cubic feet of storage capacity. A large independent...
