Dr. Lang

Dr. M. Joanne Lang presented some of the strategies KSTC has used to fulfill its mission during the past 16 years.

Dr Lang is the Executive Vice-President of the Kentucky Science and Technology Corporation (KSTC). KSTC was formed in 1987 and is committed to the advancement of science, technology and innovative economic development founded on Kentucky know-how. KSTC is a fast-paced leader with a reputation for developing and managing creative initiatives in education, economic competitiveness and scientific research. KSTC's vision is to create an innovation-driven entrepreneurial economy that makes Kentucky a leader in the development of knowledge and its applications to people, firms and organizations.

Joanne Lang joined the Kentucky Science and Technology Corporation (KSTC) in 1996 and is Executive Vice President. She directs several initiatives under KSTC's mission to enhance the capacity of people, companies and organizations to develop and apply science and technology to compete responsibly in the world marketplace. These include key initiatives such as Kentucky's Science and Technology Strategy (for investments in research and entrepreneurship), Cluster Analysis of Kentucky Industries, Policy Audit of Kentucky Policies for the new economy, Kentucky's New Economy Initiatives, Kentucky Science and Engineering Foundation's Critical Technologies Survey of Science Teachers.

Western South Dakota faces challenges similar to those that Kentucky faced when developing a research innovation and technology-based economic development program. We feel that Dr. Lang's firsthand experiences can help Western Research Alliance to create a viable research based development program.
