Dr. Duane Sander
Daktronics - From South Dakota University to International Markets

The Western Research Alliance, the Alumni Association
of the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology and Black Hills State
University welcomed
Dr. Duane Sander to present at the fourth luncheon of the T-BED (Technology
Based Economic Development) series of invited speakers on December 17
. The title of his presentation was "Daktronics - From South Dakota
University to International Markets".
On Saturday, December 18, Dr. Duane Sander was honored at
the SDSM&T
Fall Commencement as one of five Distinguished Alumni Award recipients.
Hailing from Howard, SD, Dr. Sander earned a B.S. degree in Electrical
Engineering from the SDSM&T in 1960, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from
Iowa State in 1962 and 1964, respectively. Dr. Sander co-founded Daktronics,
which has grown to one of the largest companies in South Dakota and established
a worldwide reputation for "state-of-the-art" scoreboard and
programmable display products. In his more than 30 years of service to
South Dakota State University, Dr. Sander has served as Professor of Electrical
Engineering, Director of Engineering Extension, Head of General Engineering,
and Dean of Engineering. In these roles he accomplished much for the benefit
of South Dakota, including the encouragement of numerous SDSU-industry
partnerships and the promotion of outreach and entrepreneurial activities,
most recently the development of the new SDSU Foundation Enterprise Institute
